Lewis County Bar Legal Aid has been a client-centered non-profit organization serving Lewis County for over 20 years. Our entire reason for existence is to provide civil law access for the people in our community who need help.  We provide a wide variety of legal services for little or no cost to people who cannot afford an attorney.

Lewis County Bar Legal Aid and CLEAR cannot provide Pro Bono or clinic representation for criminal law or traffic cases.

Eligibility requirements

for low income services.

 

  • Applicants must have income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines to receive reduced fee assistance. We may be able to offer fee-waivers in extreme hardship situations.

     

    • Proof of income is required for all low income services.

       

      • Applicants must be residents of Lewis County or have a Lewis County case and have a referral from the legal aid program in their county.

SERVICES PROVIDED

 

    Full legal representation can be provided in civil cases by a volunteer attorney to qualified low income residents of Lewis County.

     

    If your problem does not require the assistance of an attorney we will, whenever possible, refer you to other agencies that may better serve your needs.

     

  • Advice and Counsel Clinic
    A thirty minute consultation with an attorney who will provide brief legal services, such as advice on legal rights, legal options, write letters, make phone calls or assist with specific paper work.

     

    A nominal fee(s) are charged on a sliding scale according to income for this service.

    You can make an appointment with our facilitator who will review our legal forms before you file and again at the time of your final hearing to insure you are prepared for court.

  • Sale of Family Law Legal Packets
    Comprehensive family law forms and instructions are sold to the general public. We are not able to accept personal checks but we do take VISA and MasterCard Credit Debit Cards.

     

  • Attorney Connection

  • People over poverty income guidelines can receive a thirty-minute consultation with an attorney for forty dollars to discuss any legal issue in criminal and/or civil law.
